The tragic story of the death of endangered gorilla Harambe at Cincinnati Zoo has dominated the headlines over the past week.

Opinion is heavily divided over who is to blame – as opposed to how to prevent such events from happening again.

Many have argued the gorilla appeared to be protecting the boy and that killing Harambe was unjustified, while others have laid the blame at the door of Michelle Gregg – the boy’s mother – for failing to keep her child out of danger.

Now, a group of ‘hacktivists’ reportedly connected to Anonymous are calling for action against Gregg, and the zoo.

The video says:

Dear citizens of the world, as you may have heard an endangered silverback gorilla, Harambe, was killed this week after a woman, Michelle Gregg, neglected to supervise her children.

We do not see Michelle Gregg as a fit parent. We are calling on an investigation of Michelle Gregg and the zoo. We believe she should be charged in the death of an endangered animal.

We are encouraging every able-bodied person watching this video to participate. #OpHarambe engage.

Her phone number and place of work were also included in the video message.

Twitter users have also voiced concerns that their accounts were targeted by hackers after they showed support for Gregg and the zoo staff.

It is not confirmed whether this is linked to the group which calls itself ‘Anonymous Ohio’.

This tragic incident certainly has emotions running high for many people, but it is worth noting that hindsight is always 20/20.
