Cats are the ferocious tigers of the home; prowling bedrooms in search of the comfiest places to nap while fixing you with a murderous gaze as you try to use the toilet.

Babies worship them, goldfish fear them and family dogs are confused by them. The house, and all the residents in it, is their domain to toy with.

However, a cat’s silliness often outweighs their sadism. Indeed, sometimes their acute feline senses let them down, with hilarious consequences.

One daft cat thought he was the emperor of his back garden jungle until a pesky bird got the better of him.

Would-be hunter Sam the cat from North Yorkshire was snapped on CCTV footage looking rather sheepish after his sneak attack on a bird back-fired big time.

The video begins with Sam lurking in garden pipes, a bloodthirsty urge overwhelming him as he waits for a bird to swoop down from the skies.

He thinks himself very crafty indeed, and when a jackdaw flutters over – at a tantalisingly low height – Sam calculates it is the perfect moment to pounce.

Shooting from the pipes like a furry canon ball, Sam launches himself enthusiastically at the feathered pest, but to no avail.

The bird zooms away from Sam’s claws, and Sam is cat-apulted into the pond with an almighty splosh.

After a few moments, Sam emerges from the pond in a state of utter panic. His soft abundance of floof is now plastered to his dripping skin and he rushes off camera with all his bravado forgotten.

Worst of all, the whole sorry incident was witnessed by another cat who will no doubt be sniggering behind his paws for some time to come at the memory of soggy Sam.

Sam’s owner has summed up the clumsy feline as ‘a real troublemaker and is willing to tackle anything without thinking it through with the consequences often being hilarious’.

I’m sure it won’t be long until Sam is back strutting around his garden domain, concocting devious plans to bring down his winged rivals like an especially bitter Sylvester.

God’s Little People Cat Rescue have recently advertised a job posting for ‘a mature and genuinely passionate cat lover who knows how to handle many cats and would love their company’.

Oh, and the position is located on the heavenly Greek island of Syros, just in case you weren’t already one thousand per cent on board.

According to the job advertisement:

I am looking for someone who can take over the daily running of my Greek cat sanctuary in my absence. You will have 55 cats in your care and need to be able to overview them all + feed and medicate (big added bonus if you’re trained vet. nurse!).

You will be expected to take the cat to the vet in case of illness and therefore will need to be able to drive a manual car.

Apart from feeding the cats the cats will also need heaps of love and attention.

Oh God’s Little People Cat Rescue, would you purr-chance be interested in a pun-heavy writer with no veterinary understanding except a strong desire to stroke all cats, all day?
