With nail-biting scenes which will no doubt cause anxiety for any dog lover, footage has emerged of a tiny pooch running away from his owners on the big bad streets of New York.
The little hound can be seen trotting through the hectic city, narrowly missing vehicles as he scampers with surprising speed.
Terrified cries of ‘Help! help!’ and ‘Grab the dog! Somebody! Grab it!’ can be heard as an understandably frantic human on a bike chases the naughty boy through the Big Apple.
I myself have been left in great distress after my own pooch took off in a public park. I can only imagine how frightening this would be in such a busy part of the world…
The man’s calls for help were finally answered, with dozens of caring New Yorkers chasing the little pup down the streets, desperately trying to catch the pint-sized rebel.
Many of them make a grab for him, but he’s just too speedy for them and eludes their grasp time and time again. Meanwhile, the human can be heard growing more and more distraught; the pesky pup a mere dot in the distance.
At one point the dog almost collides with a truck and I swear my heart actually stopped.
Eventually, the cyclist caught up with and captured the no-doubt exhausted dog, who clearly had no clue how close he’d come to getting a one way ticket to doggy heaven.
The hero of the hour made the following statement:
Was finishing up with a tour with NYC Adventure eBike Tours and a block away from the garage, my wife and I spotted a dog escaping from his owners arms.
My quick reaction was to try and rescue the dog. If you notice at the beginning of the video there is a guy in a black tank top chasing the dog. That is the owner of the dog.
After I rescued the dog and returned him back to his owner, we were excepting a big gigantic thank you, but that never happened. Basically guy got the dog, said thanks and walked away. All in 10 seconds. That was the entire ending.
Ouch. And after all that!
Well, from the bottom of my own heart, thank you for saving this rascally little dog and giving him a second chance at getting up to mischief.
