Have you ever watched Jaws, followed by The Meg, and thought: ‘You know what would make this better, alligators?’

I mean, probably not if we’re being honest. Alligators don’t really scream ‘terror’ in the same way that sharks do, do they?

Well, they didn’t, until the trailer for Crawl was released and has me questioning everything I ever knew about the reptiles. Trust me, I will not be going near one anytime soon after watching it.

Take a look at the trailer below (if you think you can handle it):

The new horror film follows Haley (played by Skin‘s Kaya Scodelario) and her dad (Barry Pepper) as they try to escape their family home when a Category 5 hurricane traps them inside.

It soon becomes obvious that the rising water levels are the least of their worries though, when they are quickly joined by several wild alligators who are after their flesh, and boy do they mean business.

I think the fact that alligators are a very real threat, and hurricanes can happen at any time, makes the prospect of this film so much more scary than a supernatural horror – purely because it feels like something that could actually happen to you. Shudders.

The film’s director is Alexandre Aja – who has also directed The Hills Have Eyes and Piranha 3D – and its producer is Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi.

As per GamesRadar, this new film is an ‘altogether different beast’ to Aja’s previous work and it’s thought it could be one of the best upcoming movies of the year.

Which isn’t really surprising when you watch the trailer and see the bit where Scodelario isbitten by an alligator but instead of giving up, simply shoots it multiple times in a completely badass way.

And people on social media agree, with one person saying Crawl is ‘hands down’ the creature of the summer, while one simply said they are ‘so f*cking here for this’. I mean, same.

This praise is all without people having seen the movie, so who knows what the reviews will be like once they’ve actually seen it?!

Looks like we’ve got a long couple of months to wait until it’s released.

You can watch Crawl in cinemas on July 12, 2019.
