A dog has gone viral for showing he wasn’t about to go hungry during Hurricane Harvey in Texas, USA.

Otis, a German shepherd mix, was spotted wandering around the city of Sinton, carrying a full bag of dog food in his mouth.

Houston – America’s fourth largest city – is home to 6.5 million people and as a result of the Category 4 hurricane making landfall on Friday, several deaths have been reported.

Luckily for Otis, he wasn’t a stray, he’d just managed to escape from a screen porch, reports the Houston Chronicle.

Salvador Segovia was looking after his 5-year-old grandson’s pet pooch, who had evacuated the area in anticipation of severe flooding.

Salvador said:

I kept yelling his name and yelling his name and he wasn’t around.

After checking his porch on Saturday morning, Salvador noticed not only had Otis vanished, but his hefty bag of dog food had also gone.

He then decided to drive around the neighbourhood in search of the dog, before being flagged down by a neighbour who told him they’d seen Otis walking around with the bag of food in his mouth.

Another of Salvador’s neighbours, Tiele Dockens, also saw Otis and managed to snap a pic of him – which ended up going viral.

Otis is well known in the town of Sinton, which has a population of around 6,000 people.

Salvador continued:

Otis can go to Dairy Queen and he can get a hamburger.

He’s the only dog allowed to lie down in front of the county court house.

He also goes to H.E.B. He’s not a stray. He’s a good dog.

Luckily Otis was found and reunited with his family, but the picture has since gone viral – being shared over 30,000 times.

The storm has hit with so much intensity that the mayor of Rockport made the warning for residents planning to stay put to mark themselves with their social security number.
