Get ready to hear the soothing tones of David Attenborough narrating some incredible wildlife scenes, because footage from his new series Dynasties has been released.

The upcoming BBC series will air later this year, with five episodes packed full of dramatic and intense stories about some of the most endangered animals on earth.

Attenborough will talk us through stunning scenes of lions, hunting dogs, chimpanzees, tigers and emperor penguins, with each episode focusing on the ‘leader’ of the group as they fight to hold on to the top spot while protecting their family, territory and dynasty.

The BBC shared some awesome new scenes of the wildlife-filled documentary on Facebook today in honour of World Animal Day.

Dynasties has been in the works for four years, with production team working in amongst the incredible animals in an attempt to tell their stories.

The BBC Director of Content, Charlotte Moore, spoke about her hopes for the upcoming series:

The wonderful David Attenborough will inspire audiences once again when he brings the natural world to life on BBC One with Dynasty.

Four years in the making, capturing extraordinary family dynamics and behaviour, I hope these intimate animal dramas will connect with audiences just as Blue Planet II and Planet Earth II did.

Head of Commissioning, Natural History and Specialist Factual Tom McDonald added:

Dynasty is such a distinctive series, with a completely unique approach to bringing the audience into the lives of these iconic animals.

I’m thrilled that Sir David will be bringing his extraordinary storytelling to this incredibly ambitious, landmark project – a gripping portrait of our planet at a tipping point for the animals, their habitats and our world.

Executive producer of Dynasties Mike Gunton has said he thinks the new series is even more gripping than Planet Earth II – which sets very high expectations for the show.

He said:

After making Planet Earth II it’s very exciting to now have the chance to show another, and I think even more intense and gripping, perspective on the lives of our planets most impressive, yet vulnerable creatures.

Viewers of Dynasties will watch the lives of the animals in focus unfold in incredible detail, giving us a rare insight into their incidents, successes and workings within the family.

The clip released today hints that the show will involve some inevitable emotional moments as well as awe-inspiring action.

The scenes were met with a lot of excited comments from viewers, who, like the majority of us, can’t wait for the show’s release.

One Attenborough fan wrote:

Oooo… I shall look forward to that!…Absolute LOVE David Attenborough programs

While another is already mentally preparing themselves for the pain that will no doubt occur:

I won’t be able to watch any of it I can’t bare to see them in pain.

A third viewer added:

genuinely don’t think I’ve ever been as excited by any programme ever.

Attenborough’s documentaries never fail to leave us open-mouthed in shock and awe, and Dynasties is looking to be no different!

Awesome.
