Earlier this week you may have seen the heart-breaking story about a dog called Walnut and his owner Mark.

The greyhound’s health has rapidly deteriorated in his old age and he has collapsed on multiple occasions.

His owner, Mark, could see he was clearly suffering and had to make the difficult decision to have his ‘best friend’ put down.

He said:

He’s been with me through some very difficult times in my life and he’s just got me through them, both physically and mentally. We’ve shared a lot of dramas, a lot of fun and a lot of shenanigans and he’s exceptionally special. Eighteen years is a long time to build up a bond of friendship.

But before Walnut goes to doggy heaven, Mark wanted him to give the 18-year-old Whippet a wonderful send-off.

So he shared a call-out on Facebook, inviting people and their dogs to join him for Walnut’s last ever walk along Porth Beach in Newquay this Saturday at 9.30am.

He even got Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford blubbing when he made an appearance via video-link on ITV‘s This Morning.

And it’s safe to say the response was simply overwhelming. Their story has been shared thousands of times, and people from all over the UK have sent their support to the pair.

This morning Walnut went for his final walk along the beach, joined by hundreds of people and their dogs.

And he had his final paddle in the sea.
