In yet another story which demonstrates the intelligence of dogs, a stolen German Shepherd has managed to check himself into hospital all by himself.

Nine-month-old Silla, from Amasya province in northern Turkey, was stolen while his owner Serdar Keskindir was working. Serdar was understandably left devastated by the theft of Silla, who is a good friend to him as well as a work companion.

Longing for his pet’s safe return, Serdar posted a 2,000-TRY (£238) cash reward which he now thinks made it far trickier for the devious thieves to try and sell poor Silla.

It is thought the dog snatchers simply dumped Silla, without any thought to his safety or the feelings of his heartbroken owner. Horrifyingly, the situation worsened when Silla was set upon and injured by stray dogs.

But fortunately, Silla is no ordinary dog and was able to take care of himself after being put in a vulnerable and frightening position. Taking himself to hospital for treatment, he was able to get his wounds tended to by professionals.

Silla often accompanies his human papa Serdar to work, where he recovers vehicles which have been in car crashes. It is believed the clever canine recognised the ambulances and somehow understood there were doctors at the hospital who could treat his injuries.

Incredible footage shows sweet Silla rushing up to the entrance of the emergency room of the Amasya Vocational Training facility, as if knowing exactly what needed to be done.

Another video shows Silla having his injured leg treated by a caring human doctor. He is reportedly now in a good state of health, all thanks to his own quick thinking and the kindness of the hospital staff.

An overjoyed Serdar has since thanked workers at the emergency room for treating his beloved pet, stating:

When the dog was then attacked by stray dogs and had its left leg injured, it went to search for help at an emergency unit.

There is no word as of yet whether the thieves have been identified. Hopefully they will suffer the same punishment as Cruella de Vil and end up tumbling into a vat of old molasses.

Those who have learned of Silla’s bittersweet journey are absolutely besotted with the beautiful, brave dog who has shown such resourcefulness at a time of crisis.

One Twitter user demanded he be made Minister of Health, while another remarked he was ‘smarter than the one who’s going to own it’ (Sorry Serdar).

Others praised the medical workers for treating the courageous hound, with one person tweeting:

This is one beautiful reason Im in love with this country. People empathy and treatment towards animals is exemplary. Never seen it anywhere else.

Another simply commented:

Nice people. We love you.

Hopefully Serdar showered Silla with treats upon his miraculous return home. We all like to think our dog is the cleverest boy in the world, but I think Silla may just be deserving of that title.
