An otherworldly ‘alien’ which washed up on a beach in New Zealand has left locals confused as to what the hell the ‘creature’ could be.
Melissa Doubleday was driving past Muriwai Beach, near Auckland, when she spotted the huge, barnacle encrusted monstrosity lying on the sand.
Not knowing what the massive ‘monster’ was Melissa posted photos on the Muriwai & Waimauku Area Community Group Facebook page in the hopes of getting answers, The Telegraph reports.
She wrote:
Just curious to know if anyone knows what this is??! Washed up on Muriwai Beach. I actually thought it was a washed up whale as I approached it, so weird.
Despite hundreds of people liking and sharing the muck encrusted mockery’s photo, no one could definitively say what the seaweed covered thing was beneath its protective coat of barnacles.
Not that it’s stopped people guessing what it could be – with a fanciful few suggesting it’s could be a Rastafarian whale, an ancient Maori canoe or alien time capsule (of course they did).
Some, more mundane thinkers, believe that it was just a piece of driftwood covered in gooseneck barnacles which attach themselves to hard objects such as the hulls of ships, piers and rocks.
My personal theory is that it’s Jabba the Hutt’s surfing brother.
I’ve not got any proof, but it makes about as much sense as the alien time capsule theory…
