Mystery As Sea Monster Washes Up On Beach After Hurricane

After the recent incidents of record breaking hurricanes, it’s no surprise the sea has churned up a scary monster or two.

But it doesn’t mean it’s any less weird when we see a monster from the deep, just like the one found on a beach in Texas City.

Once Hurricane Harvey cleared, the strange looking creature was found decaying, and the images are absolutely gross:

The creature was found by Preeti Desai, from the National Audobon Society, while she was strolling along the beach after the storm calmed.

As reported by Earth Touch News, she said:

I was out on the Texas coast after Hurricane Harvey, assessing sites to see how they’d fared after the storm with a team of folks from Audobon Texas.

We were on a beach in Texas City and saw this thing from afar so I got closer to figure out what it was.

Preeti continued:

I’ve already got a huge interest in wildlife, especially birds and ocean creatures, but it was so unexpected to see it there on the beach.

On first glance, it looked like something from the deep sea to me. My initial thought was it might be a sea lamprey, but when I got close I realised there was no way that was what it was, particular based on the mouth.

We squished it around a bit, and even turned it over but couldn’t come up with any other ideas.

Preeti posted the images to Twitter, which dumbfounded some biologists, with some suggesting it might be a kind of eel.

It’s unclear what it is at this stage, but Dr Kenneth Tighe of the Smithsonian reckons it could be a ‘fangtooth snake-eel’. Duh.

This monster is known for lurking in the depths of the sea and eating crustaceans and bony fish, so Hurricane Harvey must have really churned up that bad boy for it to end up on the coast of Texas.
