It’s absolutely heartbreaking to imagine there are people out there who would abandon an animal when they’re at their most vulnerable.
But, unfortunately that’s exactly what happened to one poor pooch, who was left on the street face down in her wheelchair.
The gorgeous doggo called Lunita was tied up outside a local grooming shop in Argentina with nothing but her wheelchair and a bag of nappies in what can only be described as a horrendous act of cruelty.
A video shared by Animal Shelters Near Me shows the condition Lunita was found in, and how she continued to progress:
It was only when a passerby saw Lunita and decided to take her to a local veterinarian clinic, that she was given the care she needed. Vets even given her brand new wheelchair that allowed her to walk again, breathing life into the pooch once again.
Shortly after she was found, an American family contacted the organisation and offered to give Lunita a permanent home. However, it was quickly determined this family weren’t taking proper care of the dog and so she was returned to the organisation.
Luckily, another American family stepped in and took Lunita in, and she quickly began recovering and became the happy dog she always could have been.
Playing with her dog siblings every day, running around and visiting parks, Lunita’s paralysis was never an obstacle for her thanks to her custom-built wheelchair that helped her to move.
Lunita’s celebrated her 11th birthday on June 15 last year with all her dog friends and her new family, even enjoying a dog-friendly birthday cake.
Tragically though, just as she was getting comfortable in her new life, the dog got sick just one month after her birthday and was admitted into the ICU at the University Medical Hospital, where she passed away.
According to Animal Shelters Near Me, Lunita’s mum shared the tragic news on Facebook, writing:
I will never forget her and how much she meant to me. She changed my life forever. I loved her so much.
I think can all agree she was a very special dog to have defied the odds and gone on to live a happy life with her lovely US family.
Rest in peace, Lunita.
