Hey guys, stop buying huskies you bastards. Peter Dinklage says so.
The actor has beaseached Game of Thrones fans for a very important reason.
As followers of the show may know, the the breed are used for the Direwolves in the HBO series. Well, they are. Past seasons haven’t given us as much of the fluffy bastards as we’d like.
Still, fans still seem to be buying them in order to get closer to living that GoT lifestyle.
There’s just one problem. Poor huskies are being bought and abandoned in record breaking numbers. In 2014, the UK reported that the dogs were suffering a 700% increase in abandonment.
Two husky rescues in San Francisco have also seen their monthly intake double of recent late.
Dinklage has even paired up with PETA to address the crisis.
He wrote:
Please, to all of Game of Thrones’ many wonderful fans, we understand that due to the direwolves’ huge popularity, many folks are going out and buying huskies. Not only does this hurt all the deserving homeless dogs waiting for a chance at a good home in shelters, but shelters are also reporting that many of these huskies are being abandoned – as often happens when dogs are bought on impulse, without understanding their needs.
Please, please, if you’re going to bring a dog into your family, make sure that you’re prepared for such a tremendous responsibility and remember to always, ALWAYS, adopt from a shelter.
Dogs poo and pee everywhere and sorta, you know, constantly need attention. I know that and it’s why I haven’t got a doggo. Try and act accordingly, guys. If not for me or the huskies, but for Dinklage.
