Remember those classic scenes from Meet the Parents where Robert De Niro does the ‘I’m watching you’ signal to Ben Stiller, now replace Robert De Niro with a dog.

Meet Blu, she’s a deaf pit bull who’s had a tough time in life. As a pup she was locked in a small room by a family who couldn’t look after her and was surrendered to an overcrowded shelter.

Just when it looked like Blu was going to be put on death row, she was rescued by Family Dog Rescue, but after a year she still hadn’t found her forever home.

Enter her new owner, Sean Stevens, who’s spoken to The Dodo about how he found his diamond in the ruff (sorry, not sorry).

Sean said:

[The rescue volunteers] let us know that she didn’t get very many visitors because of her deafness and some behavioral issues which can make walking her slightly difficult.

She doesn’t really know how to interact with other dogs. She gets very excited, and because she is deaf she can’t hear when they start growling or barking at her to stop.

Sean and his partner Marc knew immediately Blu was the perfect fit for their family.

Sean continued:

It was pretty immediately after meeting her that we fell for her. Blu is such a sweet girl and we both recognized that once she went to a good home her personality would blossom.

Bringing Blu home, the poor pooch couldn’t relax.

While she would play and go on long walks, she wouldn’t let her owners out of her sight.

Sean added:

She would refuse to look away from us even though she was obviously exhausted. We knew she was tired because she wasn’t trying to get us to play with her tennis ball or with the stack of toys that we got for her, but was instead sitting and staring at us.

Sean and Marc took to Reddit to post a pic of Blu, which received over 43K upvotes and hundreds of comments with suggestions on how to look after her.

For over a week Blu just didn’t want to go to bed. No matter how tired she was she would always have her eyes on her new parents.

Sean stated:

Recently, she has started to get a bit agitated with us whenever we don’t go to sleep when she wants to.

She has started to walk in circles barking at nothing in particular until we go lay in bed with her. Once we are in bed she will curl up at the bottom of the bed and watch us until we turn the lights out.

The good news is Blu’s a sound sleeper, and when she wakes up to see her new dads are still there she definitely doesn’t get out the wrong side of the bed.

‘When it is time to wake up she gets extremely excited and her tail wags really hard almost slapping her face,’ Stevens explained. ‘It’s probably the cutest thing in the world.’

Blu’s settling in ‘a day at a time’ and ‘ every day gets easier for her to realize that she has found a home’ [sic], her new owner added.
