Animal lovers will no doubt be unable to comprehend how anyone could choose to abandon a beautiful and friendly dog as if it was nothing more than a worn out piece of furniture.

However, this is exactly the upsetting situation which has occurred in Hull, with a heartbreakingly sad looking boxer dog discovered abandoned and tied to a lamppost.

The white boxer has been photographed looking terribly forlorn, and had not even been given a bowl of water to quench his thirst.

Fortunately, he was found by kindhearted Hull resident Graham Dobson, 43, on Thursday, April 11 who showed some much needed kindness towards the terrified pooch.

After taking him in, Mr Dobson gave the downcast boxer some food and water. And when nobody came back to collect the poor pet, the Good Samaritan called for the dog warden.

As reported by Hull Live, Mr Dobson revealed how the dog had been cruelly left at the lamp post for over an hour:

It was heartbreaking to see he had been left and how upset he was, as he was a real nice dog and so friendly, just really scared.

I came to work in the morning and found the dog tied up on the main road looking sad and scared.

I got told by other people that he’d been tied up for more than an hour, and I fed and watered him as he’d been left with nothing and then called the dog warden to pick him up.

Fortunately, this dog is now receiving the care he needs at at Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire Boxer Rescue. Despite initially being a bit nervous, this gorgeous boy has since been photographed looking far happier and full of fun.

It is now hoped this dog – who has been given the name Max – will one day be able to enjoy the love he so desperately deserves, in a safe and supportive forever home.

Chair of the Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire Boxer Rescue, Matthew McDonnell, told Hull Live:

He will probably be very scared and a bit disorientated perhaps. I imagine if he has been tied to a lamppost he could be very nervous and he may just want peace and quiet so we will find him a nice, quiet space and find out what he needs and look to see if we can find any vet records.

From there, he will be fully assessed and our view is that every dog is different and every dog has different requirements.

We will have to find the best place for him and that could be short term foster care while he settles and adapts. It is all about getting him the right home moving forward but for the moment he in safe hands.
