This is the incredible story of one severely wounded dog who somehow managed to make a full recovery against the odds.

The canine in question, who has since been given the name Kalu, was discovered by the caring aid workers behind the Animal Aid Unlimited charity, after they found him in a hole, being eaten alive by maggots.

Kalu’s infested face was almost entirely eaten away, exposing large sections of his skull – but that didn’t stop AAU from taking him back to their shelter in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

Work quickly began on the defeated dog, who was in unbearable pain and on the brink of death – at one point, euthanasia was considered.

However, nobody – including Kalu himself – gave up, and the maggot infestation was eventually removed. He was then heavily sedated and his horrific wounds were thoroughly cleaned.

After being bandaged up and left to rest for two days, he finally started eating food on day three of his recovery. The rest is history…

On day five, charity workers discovered his left eye had reappeared, and hair was finally growing back on his once destroyed muzzle. A miracle was happening and it was all down to Kalu’s immense spirit.
