According to Newsweek, in what experts suspect was the result of a ‘turf war’, it took the 8-year-old female nearly a whole day to eat the 5-year-old male inside their tank.

The video of the lengthy meal shows the female shark start with the male’s head before slowly consuming the rest of his body.

COEX aquarium PR manager Oh Tae-youp,told Reuters:

This act of shark cannibalism was probably the result of the sharks bumping into one another.

Sharks have their own territories, Sometimes, when they bump into each other, they bite out of astonishment.

The tiger shark measured 7.2 ft in length and the smaller banded shark only measured 3.9 ft – it took her 21 hours to finish her meal.

Oh Tae-youp added:

I think the shark swallowed the whole body, because they usually eat it all when they bite the head part.

Delicious.
