This video shows the emotional moment a veteran is given his dogs back after a hospital stay.

The man, whose name hasn’t been identified, had been forced to give the two dogs up for adoption when he was admitted to hospital after having a heart attack.

Bailey and Blaze were sent to the First State Animal Center and SPCA in Camden, Delaware as they had no one to look after them. It was only meant to be a temporary solution but after a few weeks had passed they were put up for adoption, Huffington Post reports.

Luckily for the owner the two dogs were overlooked, and were still at the shelter when he left hospital.

Adoption counsellor Lindsay Carrothers told Huff Post: “The dogs couldn’t contain their excitement. They greeted him with massive kisses and wagging tails”.

Understandably the man wanted to get his dogs back, but needed time to get the $250 adoption fee together, so the staff decided to help him out by collecting donations.

When the man returned to explain he needed some more time, staff at the shelter surprised him by telling the owner he could have his dogs back then and there, as they had managed to collect enough money to pay the fees for him.

Carrothers said she’s happy to have helped return this loving family back together, adding:

It had everyone in tears. You could just feel the love those dogs had for him. And there shouldn’t have been anything, especially money, that should’ve stood in the way to getting his family back.

And donations haven’t stopped coming in for the dogs and their owner, with the public donating extra gift cards for food and gas.

If that doesn’t get you to shed a tear I don’t know what will!
