It is a very grey Tuesday and so, to brighten up your day, here is a sweet tale of one woman and her dog that will make you go ‘awwwww’.
Looking to adopt a canine companion Nicole Grimes, from Pennsylvania, was scrolling through Facebook one day to see which pups were up for adoption.
Coming across a cute pomeranian-poodle crossbreed on the social media platform, Nicole thought the doggo looked strangely familiar reminding her of her beloved puppy from childhood, Chloe.
Here are the two of them together:
When Nicole was aged 10 her grandmother gave her Chloe as a surprise and the two instantly became the best of friends, inseparable for the next four years.
But as Nicole told the BBC, when her father got a new job which required him to work from home without noise or distraction she knew she had to give Chloe up.
Heartbroken, her father drove her to the Washington Area Humane Society to drop Chloe off:
I was 10 years old and all I wanted was a puppy. She was wearing a pink bow when Nana gave her to me. We were best friends.
My dad got a new job working from home but Chloe was too yappy and he had to be on the phone all the time.
I remember my dad picked me up from school when I was 14 with the dog in the back seat. I knew we had to give her away.
Although an upset Nicole regularly rang the Humane Society they never could provide updates.
But fairytales can come true, and so Nicole, ‘on a whim’, went to pick up a pup she spotted was available for adoption. She found out this 11-year-old doggo was also called Chloe.
When the two met, Nicole had an inkling this Chloe was the same dog from her childhood:
When I found out they were both called Chloe it was really strange. It just clicked when she was introduced to me as Chloe.
When she was dropped off she came running up to me and was licking my face. Then I knew in my heart that she had to be the same dog.
With Nicole’s husband sceptical the pair checked the microchip which confirmed the suspicion, meaning Nicole and Chloe had been officially reunited after seven long years apart.
Nicole was also overwhelmed with happiness and couldn’t believe what had happened.
Chloe has been settling in well, developing a special bond and playing with Nicole’s daughter, Violet.
Nicole said:
She is a little smaller and has no teeth, but she still loves to run around. They love to play with each other. Chloe is very gentle with Violet and it warms my heart to see them together.
I felt like I won the lottery. I never thought I’d see her again.
Nicole was also delighted to hear that during the seven years they spent apart Chloe wasn’t alone. She lived with, and was loved by, an elderly couple until they passed.
