After filing for bankruptcy on Monday, rapper 50 Cent has spoken to Conan O’Brien about why he felt he had to do it.
Poor old fiddy has had a pretty rough week. After losing $5 million in a messy law suit, the hip hop star filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection in an attempt to protect his estate. It was a huge shock as 50 Cent – whose real name is Curtis Jackson – has been described by the New York Times as having “exceptional business instincts” with Forbes stating that he was worth more than $155 million as recently as May.
Appearing on Conan to promote his new movie, Southpaw, in which he stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Jackson explained why he felt it was necessary to file for bankruptcy after he was successfully sued for uploading a sex tape as part of a fued with rapper Rick Ross.
Yeah, I need protection, you get a bull’s-eye painted on your back when you’re successful, and it’s public. You become the ideal person for lawsuits.
Conan and Jackson then joke about a recent instagram post in which the rapper is pictured posing with a smart car.
Times are hard out here, for real. That picture was actually taken by Jake Gyllenhaal. Total empty parking lot, so he took the picture.
The interview has now been taken down from Conan’s channel.
