Whatever you think of James Blunt’s music career, it’s hard to deny that the man is one of the true greats of Twitter.

Blunt recently took a break from spitting out comebacks so perfect they deserve constant applause to record some music. Coming back to Twitter, he announced his new album the only way he knew how.

He tweeted: “If you thought 2016 was bad – I’m releasing an album in 2017.”

Hilarious – but he couldn’t be more wrong. With a new James Blunt album comes anti-Blunt Twitter critics, and with anti-Blunt Twitter critics comes the singer’s on point comebacks. And that could only make 2017 a great year to look forward to.

The musician’s last – and fourth – album was 2013’s ‘Moon Landing’. But he is, of course, best known for his divisive 2005 single ‘You’re Beautiful’, which sent one half of the UK population swooning and the other on the brink of insanity.

Here’s a refresher if you can’t remember hearing this at a house party or 10:

But besides his deeply divisive music career, he absolutely owns Twitter.

Like that time he corrected a critic on when he was last relevant:

Or the countless times he made fun of his own music:

And pretty much just every other time he’s on Twitter:

Bring on the 2017 album, Blunt.

Here’s to hoping it’s 12 cover versions of ‘You’re Beatiful’.
