There may be some awkward family reunions on the cards for one New York woman who is actually pursuing legal action against her own young nephew for jumping into her arms at his birthday party and breaking her wrist.

The boy’s aunt, Jennifer Connell, stopped one step short of saying she hates fun but did claim her 12-year-old nephew acted unreasonably when he greeted her so exuberantly at his eighth birthday party in 2011.

She is reportedly seeking $127,000 (£83,000) in damages from the youngster, whose mother died last year.

The Westport News reports that Connell testified in court that she loves her nephew, whom she described as always being “very loving, sensitive” towards her. Not sure her actions mirror her words on that one, to be honest.

She alleged that the child was riding his new bicycle when he spotted her and dropped it, recounting: “I remember him shouting, ‘Auntie Jen, I love you!’ and there he was flying at me!”

The human resources manager added that although she didn’t complain at the time, her life has been made difficult in the years since because of the injury, especially “because of how crowded it is in Manhattan”.

Worst of all – and brace yourselves for this – she added: “I was at a party recently and it was difficult to hold my hors d’oeuvres plate.” The poor, poor woman!

We’d tell the two of them to hug it out but that’s exactly what caused all the trouble in the first place!
