This Wednesday we saw the return of Virgin Radio UK to our airwaves, as the station underwent its big relaunch.
The station was a powerhouse during the ’90s, with the combination of Richard Branson, Chris Evans and a variety of Britpop providing us with entertainment throughout the decade.
Dave Thompson/PA WireAccording to The Guardian, Richard Branson’s rock and pop music station will be one of 18 stations that’ll launch on Sound Digital, including talkSPORT, talkSPORT 2 and a bold new speech station, talkRADIO.
Virgin Radio UK will feature Edith Bowman and Matt Richardson as its main presenters, covering the key breakfast and drivetime shows respectively.
Dave Thompson/PA WireAnd what better way to launch the new station then with a live show on a train from Manchester to London Euston?
That’s exactly what they did, with Travis, The Mystery Jets, The Feeling and Walking on Cars performing live from a specially designed carriage.
Dave Thompson/PA WireIrish singer-songwriter Gavin James kicked off the show with a tribute cover of the late David Bowie’s ‘Changes’, marking the crossover between old and new underpinning the relaunch.
Sounds good to us!
