Last night’s Grammy Awards were unashamedly centered on the Hello singer Adele, not only because she scooped five awards, but because she bared her soul on stage.
The British star confirmed in an acceptance speech that she is secretly married to her long term partner Simon Konecki when she called him her ‘husband’.
The pair have a four-year-old child together and rumours of their marriage had gone around in December when she was spotted with a wedding band… as you can expect, Twitter went mad.
She said in her speech:
Grammys, I appreciate it, the Academy, I love you, my manager, my husband and my son – you’re the only reason I do it.
The couple have been together for over five years, announcing their engagement in October last year.
As well as that surprise revelation, Adele slammed her estranged father, saying ‘I don’t love my dad’, while praising her manager saying, ‘I owe you everything. We’ve been together for ten years, and I love you like you’re my dad’.
She then followed up the comment by clarifying that, ‘I love you so, so much. I don’t love my dad, that’s the thing. That doesn’t mean a lot. I love you like I would love my dad’.
When accepting the award for best album, Adele confessed, ‘I can not possibly accept this award’ and donated it to the ‘artist of my life’, before breaking the award in two and giving half to Beyonce.
Speaking on stage, Adele said:
I can’t accept this award because, for me, Beyonce, Lemonade was amazing.
It was so monumental and so soul bearing. We saw another side of you that we don’t always get to see.
We adore you, you are our light. The way you make me feel, and the way you make my black friends feel, is amazing. I love you so much, I always have and always will.
With all the pressure of the night, Adele stopped during her first attempt at performing Fastlove as a tribute to George Michael due to sound issues.
The 28-year-old singer cursed, before saying:
I’m sorry for swearing and and I’m sorry for starting again.
I can’t mess this up for him. I’m sorry, I can’t.
