GIPHYCheryl has just given birth to her first baby, with former One Direction boy band member, Liam Payne.
The 33-year-old pop star, who now goes by just her Christian name, welcomed her firstborn on Wednesday 22 March and has since announced that she and Liam are ‘besotted’ with their baby boy.
While emotions are evidently running high in the household, Cheryl‘s former husband has apparently contributed to the feelings of love and goodwill inspired by the birth of a child.
The couple divorced in 2010 amid claims of infidelity on Ashley Cole’s part.
However, a source told Closer magazine:
[Ashley] wished Cheryl and Liam only happiness in their future. He told Cheryl how lucky her son is to have her and he always knew she’d make an amazing mum.
[The] message brought [Cheryl] to tears and she admitted it finally felt like closure for their relationship.
Last February, Cole became a new parent himself, welcoming a baby boy with his girlfriend Sharon Canu who ‘reminded [him] what’s most important in life’.
It just goes to show the restorative power a newborn baby can bring to families and loved ones – past and present.
