Spending all day kissing actresses on set sounds like a dream job for many people, but for Charlie Hunnam, it’s pretty much his worst nightmare.

The Pacific Rim actor was supposed to play the domineering, sexual deviant, Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades films, but turned the role down for a number of reasons.

He recently revealed in an interview with Elle, aside from anxiety issues and an over-packed schedule, the fact he doesn’t like kissing other women was a very real problem for him.

This may come as a complete shock to some people, but for the 36-year-old actor, kissing actresses for a living is actually a horrendous part of the perceived-to-be glamorous job.

Clearly getting sexy on set is no good for his relationship too, so perhaps the fact he’s so committed to his girlfriend is a major part of the ‘problem.’

He told Elle:

I try to be sensitive to the fact that we’re doing something intimate, but also keep a clear boundary.Because I’m in a very committed relationship, and I’m also cognisant that it’s not my girlfriend’s favourite part of my job.

It’s a delicate balance to strike – to be emotionally open enough to have an experience that feels honest between two people but also maintain that it’s just for the film. It’s not my favourite thing to do.

Aside from remaining extremely loyal to his girlfriend, Charlie also explained there was another contributing factor as to why he he’s not a fan of snogging co-stars.

He’s a massive, self-confessed ‘germophobe.’ While I can’t imagine rich, Hollywood actresses having poor hygiene, it is certainly a consideration and at least a legitimate reason…

He told Elle:

I don’t want to kiss anyone but my girlfriend for my whole life. … The point is, everyone thinks it’s great to be an actor and get to kiss a bunch of beautiful actresses in films, but I actually hate it.

I’m also a germophobe.

So it sounds like the S&M film, bringing bondage to the mainstream with plenty of sex scenes probably wouldn’t be an ideal choice for Charlie then…

I’ve definitely heard of worse ‘downsides’ to a job though.
