The fiance of Ched Evans, Natasha Massey, revealed why she stayed loyal to the footballer when he was first convicted of rape, and then acquitted.
Astonishingly, Natasha explained that it wasn’t the rape conviction that made her question her loyalty, but his unfaithfulness, the Telegraph reports.
She said:
It wasn’t the rape allegation. It was personal. It was the fact Ched had cheated on me, he’d ruined the trust that we had. I trusted him with my life.
Natasha, who is the director of her father’s highly successful jewellery business, maintained that there was no way Ched could rape someone saying he is ‘a big softie’ and a family person’.
Evans was found originally guilty of raping a 19-year-old waitress in a hotel at Caernarfon Crown Court in 2012, but his conviction was quashed and he was cleared in a retrial earlier this month.
When Ched told the 28-year-old mother of their son Flyn, she said she threw up and was shaking, before travelling to Marbella for a girls’ holiday and some time to think.
She said:
I hated what he’d done, but I still loved him. I texted horrible things to him, I wanted to punish him, I wanted him to suffer. After a week, I called him and I said, ‘Right, you bastard, I want to hear every minging detail.’ Ched said, ‘You really don’t,’ but I insisted. It was awful. I think I hung up several times, but I needed to know.
Natasha confessed that the most devastating moment of the ordeal was finding out that Ched had given the girl oral sex.
It was the day before the verdict and he came out of court and I thought, I can’t even LOOK at you. After being so supportive to him and everything, but that is just such an intimate thing. We were in the bedroom, and I started crying and I said, ‘I can’t believe you did that.’
Ched turned down the sex offenders’ course in prison which would have earned him privileges, and told Natasha that he would rather be in there for life and murder than for rape.
Evans, 27, served half of the five year sentence he was given before the conviction was overturned by the Court of Appeal.
When the Telegraph told Ched Evans he was lucky to have Natasha, he said ‘I know. I’m the luckiest unluckiest man alive’.
