Now June is here, it’s officially LGBTQ+ Pride Month, which means people all over the world will positively stand against the discrimination of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual people.
But, while millions of people from the LGBTQ+ community and their allies will take to the streets in celebration, there are still some people who aren’t on board with the movement.
It’s 2019 and gay marriage has already been legalised in the UK and in many other countries all over the world as we move towards a being a planet that accepts love is love.
But, unfortunately it’s not a perfect world, and there are still people who believe their religious beliefs give them the right to discriminate against the LGBTQ+ community, which is the perfect example of why Pride Month needs to exist.
However, small minded people are no match for wrestler-cum-actor Dave Bautista, who just absolutely destroyed a homophobic catholic bishop on Twitter, and it was nothing short of incredible.
Bishop Thomas Tobin from Rhode Island in the US took to social media to remind his flock they should not be participating in Pride Month, claiming such events are ‘particularly harmful for children.’
He wrote:
A reminder that Catholics should not support or attend LGBTQ ‘Pride Month’ events held in June.
They promote a culture and encourage activities that are contrary to Catholic faith and morals. They are especially harmful for children.
The Avengers: Infinity War star was quick to point out he grew up with a gay parent, and it’s fair to say having conquered the world of wresting, mixed martial arts, and acting, he’s done pretty well for himself.
Bautista shared the tweet, writing:
My moms a lesbian. I think I turned out ok. And the activities she chooses is to help the homeless and people suffering from mental illness. I admit I’m not perfect but at least I was never a judgmental hypocrite! I’m sure you don’t speak for most Catholics. Have a nice day.
Can we get a round of applause for Dave Bautista, please and thank you?
It goes without saying Bautista was met with thousands of responses saying what a bloody legend he is for calling out the archaic ideology of Bishop Tobin and we are here for it.
The more high profile allies condemning hatred and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community, the closer we get to a world that just sees love as love.
