If you haven’t been lucky enough to attend an Indian wedding, they’re beautifully extravagant affairs.
So imagine the wedding of the daughter of India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani.
The flowers from Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s weddings had barely begun to wilt as Chopra’s bridesmaid, Isha Ambani, began her pre-wedding events.
If you thought Priyanka and Nick’s wedding was out there, the wedding of 27-year-old Isha Ambani to 33-year-old real estate mogul Anand Piramal is on a new level.
The huge bash is thought to have cost $100 million (£74.9m) according to Bloomberg.
The pre-wedding celebrations have already taken place and included a private concert from Beyonce herself.
If that’s the pre-wedding line-up, what on earth is going to happen at the wedding.
Hillary Clinton, Ariana Huffington, Aishwarya Rai, Shahrukh Khan, and Amitabh Bachchan were just a handful of the A-list celebrities on the guest list.
The first hints of how lavish the wedding was going to be was the gold-plated Dolce and Gabbana box guests received as invitations, detailing the events set to take place in the five-day affair.
The pre-wedding events included five-star meals, discos and concerts held in the 18th century City Palace in Udaipur.
The wedding itself will be held at Antilla, the 27 storey Mumbai apartment building that Mr Ambani built to serve as his family home.
The business mogul, whose interests cover oil, telecoms, chemicals, textiles, technology, and food, has 600 staff to maintain the residence 24 hours a day.
The grand entrance to the building and surrounding streets have been dressed with hundreds of roses, lights, and opulent textiles.
One thing this family isn’t short of is money. In April 2016, Isha launched online fashion retailer AJIO which is a subsidiary of her father’s company Reliance Retail.
Her soon-to-be husband Arnand is an executive director of Piramal Group which has pharmaceutical interests, as well as financial, real estate, healthcare analytics, and glass packaging.
Arnand and Isha are old family friends and Arnand’s father Ajay Piramal is another Indian billionaire industrialist.
The world has been amazed at how big their wedding has been, with one Twitter user saying:
You know your dad is rich when he can afford to hire Beyonce to sing at your PRE-wedding party. What do you do for the actual wedding – pay someone to resurrect John Lennon?
Another person made comments about how the money could have been put to a different use, saying:
Imagine the impact #AmbaniWedding would have had if Mukesh donated hundreds of crores spent on silly dance & music extravaganza and charter flts to social causes: weddings of orphans/free eye care of lakhs etc and the couple had a simple wedding in a temple and got blessed by lakhs.
Just to top off the whole engagement, it is being reported that the groom-to-be’s parents have gifted the couple a newly built 50,000 sq ft, sea-facing home.
That’s one hell of a wedding gift.
