Earlier this year it was revealed that film-star Johnny Depp was facing personal troubles in regards to his spending.

Despite perhaps thinking the Pirates of the Caribbean star may be loaded for eternity, it turns out that living such an extravagant lifestyle has proved too costly, even for him.

It was reported that Depp spends around $2m a month maintaining his numerous homes, chain of islands and private planes.

Well now, leaked emails between Depp and his ex-managers reportedly show the actor being asked to ‘take it easy’ on his spending.

Joel Mandel and The Management Group are currently fighting to subpoena Depp’s attorney Jake Bloom and his ex-agent Tracey Jacobs, according to the Hollywood Reporter, as part of the ongoing battle as to whether he knew about the state of his finances – claiming the emails, which they have now made public, prove their case.

Depp filed a lawsuit against Mandel and TMG in January over claims of fraud and negligence.

TMG then counter-sued, claiming Depp was well aware of his financial situation, including Jacobs, Bloom, and Depp’s sister Christi Dembrowski.

TMG also argues that the others mentioned, had all pleaded with the star to curtail his spending as early as 2009.

All getting a bit complicated now isnt’t it?

As well as spending an absolute shit load on islands and planes, there were also some more unusual items listed;

$4 million on a failed record label.

$3 million to fire Hunter S Thompson’s ashes out of a cannon.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars on a sound engineer to feed him his lines on set so he ‘no longer has to memorise them’.

It’s reported that only one of the leaked emails shows a direct exchange between Depp and Mandel, which talks about the star’s need to ‘take it easy’ on his spending habits.

A day later, Depp replies saying he is doing his ‘very best’ but needs to give his family, ‘as good a Christmas as possible, obviously within reason’.

Depp’s response continued:

What else can I do?

I got bikes, cars, property, books, paintings and some semblance of a soul left – where would you like me to start???

Finishing his email, the Donnie Brasco star said he was unhappy with his financial situation, but said ‘there wasn’t a whole lot of choice’ left for him.

He also claimed that his last ‘proper pay-check’ had been in 2009 for the film Public Enemies.

Michael J Kump, an attorney for TMG, called Depp’s lawsuit a ‘fabrication’ and wrote in a statement that:

[The company] Had done everything possible to protect Depp from his irresponsible and profligate spending.

According to Forbes magazine, Depp was the fifth highest-paid actor of 2016, earning $48 million, thanks to projects including the latest Pirates of the Caribbean installment.
