GettyWell, it’s the time of year again where we learn just what the most popular names of 2017 have been!
Ok, so maybe the headline gave it away, but still, aren’t you the least bit curious to see what else has made it?
Especially seeing as we’ve had the oh-so A-list trend of giving newborns weird names?
Remember Apple, Sunday, North….
It seems, for 2017 at least, new parents have decided to go against the trend, giving their offspring more traditional and familiar names.
Just when you thought we weren’t going to have any more Sharons or Colins! *Breathe a sigh of relief*
Well, it turns out, for newborn boys and girls over the last 11 months, Emma and Liam are the most popular!
Summit EntertainmentEmma Watson, Emma Stone, Emma Bunton – you’re in great company among those ladies and regardless of celebs, it’s a sweet name.
As for Liams, well GQ did give their ‘Rock’n’Roll Star of the Year’ award to the one, the only, Liam Gallagher and given the year he’s had, I reckon this is why we’ve seen a surge in the name – that and the fact he’s just the greatest guy ever – yes I may be slightly biased and no, I don’t care what you say – he is!
Before anyone points out the fact his real name is William, we all know and refer to him as Liam, so shhhh.
As much as I could sit here and talk about LG all day, let’s get back to the sprog names…

Olivia, Ava, Sophia and Isabella all make the Top 5, followed closely behind by Mia, Amelia, Charlotte, Harper and Aria.
To conclude the Top 20 we have, Ella, Evelyn, Abigail, Emily and Avery – before finishing off with Scarlett, Madison, Sofia, Chloe and Lily.

Ethan comes in at six, followed by Oliver, Elijah, Aiden and James.
To make up the rest of the boys Top 20, we have Benjamin, Sebastian, Jackson, Alexander, Jacob, Carter, Jayden, Michael, Daniel and Luke.
I’m no mathematician, but I think it’s fair to say there’s a pattern emerging – everyone seems to be going for the more traditional names?
PAThe lists come courtesy of BabyCenter, who recently also gave us a list of the UK’s least popular names….
It revealed how endangered names such as Cilla, Bertha, Clive and Ian are all at risk of becoming as dead as a dodo.
Just like clothing, names shift and change with the times and can reflect anything from current boy bands to Netflix prison dramas – so no doubt, this time next year, we’ll see a completely different set of names altogether!
