Man Faces Massive Backlash For Posting Tribute To ‘Curvy’ Wife

It seems nowadays you can’t do right for doing wrong – well that’s definitely the case for one guy who’s romantic post in honour of his wife has backfired.

In true social-media style, the original post, that paid tribute to his ‘curvy’ wife has been slammed by many for ‘objectifying her.

The social media storm all began when American entrepreneur Robbie Tripp took to Instagram to praise his wife, Sarah.

In the post, Robbie talked about his own feminist credentials but it left many others less than impressed.

On the original post, that accompanied a picture of the happy couple sharing a loving moment on the beach, Robbie wrote:

I love this woman and her curvy body. As a teenager, I was often teased by my friends for my attraction to girls on the thicker side.

As I became a man and started to educate myself on issues such as feminism and how the media marginalizes women by portraying a very narrow and very specific standard of beauty (thin, tall, lean), I realised how many men have bought into that lie.

He continued:

For me, there is nothing sexier than this woman here: thick thighs, big booty, cute little side roll etc.

Now initially, the post went viral, and Robbie was praised for his body-positivity post.

Yet it wasn’t long before the criticism came flying in.

Many claim there’s nothing radical about a man loving his wife.

Journalist Julia Pugachevsky wrote on Twitter:

Strong contender for least fave type of male feminist is ‘man who thinks liking a curvy woman is revolutionary’.

The critical comment has been retweeted over 26,000 times and has subsequently sparked a controversial debate regarding feminism and what it means to be ‘body positive’.

Another unimpressed woman said:

Why do you think you’re a modern saint because you date a normal sized woman?

While another, mocking Robbie’s post, added:

I’m a feminist, I objectify women for completely different reasons than most of society

Yet not everyone was as critical of Robbie’s public adorning for his wife.

One Instagram user wrote:

I love this so much. I’m tired of people getting offended by everything and anything.

This is a beautiful post and we need more men like you in the world.

Now whether you agree with Robbie’s post or not, surely the bigger message here is why do we still give a toss about how big or small a woman is.

In 2017 do we not have more important issues to be concerned with?
