Perrie Edwards has set a ‘strong and brave’ example by posting a photo proudly showing off her childhood scar.
The Little Mix singer has previously admitted that the stomach scar is her ‘biggest body hang-up’.
Many of the 23-year-old’s fans have hailed her an inspiration for being so open about her greatest insecurity, inspiring others to feel more comfortable with themselves.
In a previous interview with Now magazine, Perrie said:
My (biggest body-hang up) is my scar on my stomach. When I was little, my oesophagus was too small, so I had to get it operated on to help me eat properly. I had to have lots of operations, so that’s why I don’t want to show it.
Fans were inspired, and one user said:
You have helped me to realise that showing my scar is important. It saved my life and I should be proud of it. Thank you.
Another fan wrote:
Gorgeous Perrie Ilysm and so proud of you for showing of your scar your so Brave and strong will forever love you… I really respect her, I think her stitch is absolutely amazing I wish I had one! Who else agrees..
Society’s stringent and rigid beauty standards are far from all-encompassing, and little acts such as Perrie’s remind the Instagram masses that just being comfortable in your own skin is what is important.
