Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas has broken her silence following the announcement of his engagement to Meghan Markle.
The 28-year-old actress, dancer and model dated Harry from 2012 to 2014 after being introduced to him by Princess Eugenie.
On Tuesday Cressida shared an inspirational quote on her Instagram account which some are believing is her response to the news of the engagement which broke the day before.
Uploading a sketch of a girl and boy sat side by side on a pair of swings reaching out to each other, the quote read:
No matter how educated, talented, rich or cool you believe you are, how you treat people ultimately tells it all.
In the caption Cressida simply wrote ‘Truth ??’ accompanied by the hashtag ‘#quotestoliveby’.
Many of Cressida’s fans have commented supportive messages of ‘Amen’ and ‘perfectly said’ on the photo which has received over 700 likes so far.
Their relationship was especially secretive and the couple were only spotted in public together when they attended the launch of the WE Day in London together in March 2014.
Only a month later it was announced that the couple had split amicably with people believing they had called it quits due to the pressure Cresida was under being in the public eye.
Cressida spoke of her frustration of being ‘pigeonholed’ as Harry’s ex-girlfriend speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour in August earlier this year.
The actress appeared on the show to talk about her role in the play Mrs Orwell in which she played Sonia, the second wife of writer George Orwell, when the host asked her about what impact once dating the prince has had on her.
Bonas replied:
I think it’s that thing of being pigeonholed. Especially in this country, I find that people are very quick to put you in a box, or put you in a corner, and think: ‘Oh, well you’re that so you must be this’.
It’s incredibly frustrating, especially in the industry that I’m in. But you know, it is the way it is.
It’s about making a stand and saying: ‘No, this is who I am and this is what I want to do’.
It’s the same with Sonia, but obviously in a completely different context. I think if Sonia were in today’s world she’d be celebrated because she’s very ambitious, very modern, but at that time, in that world, it was a man’s world.
