Paris is a city thought to be pretty liberal, after all, it’s home to a unique culture, and of course, the Moulin Rouge – so you wouldn’t think ‘twerking’ would be that big of a deal.
I don’t know the ins and outs of French law – I can barely get to grips with English law – but it turns out, twerking, especially in front of the Eiffel Tower, is a big fat no-no!
Just ask the Bulgarian pop star who decided to do it with a friend when visiting the French capital.
Bulgarian pop star, Gery Nikol, along with her unnamed friend, thought it’d be a fun idea to showcase some of their dance moves in front of the iconic building, and let their hair down – literally – in the process.
However, 19-year-old Nikol and her dancing pal were arrested for violating public order.
According to reports, the former X Factor Bulgaria star was dared by friends to do the dance – made famous by none other than Miley Cyrus – while tourists and locals filled the area.
Nikol and her friend accepted the challenge and stood in the middle of the road, dancing and twerking in the Parisian sunshine.
Soon after they’d finished publicly twerking, police reportedly showed up and arrested them both.
According to local media said, both young women had to give a statement and were fined an unspecified amount.
However, despite her arrest, it didn’t stop the Bulgarian pop princess from posting the video to her Instagram account, where she over 300,000 followers.
Accompanying the video, Nikol wrote:
The location does not matter.
At the time of writing, (July 29), over 130,000 people have viewed the footage while hundreds have left comments.
One user, by the name of ‘Hrgagam’ said:
You are the queen of everything.
While another concerned Instagrammer, called ‘GeorgiKeremedchiev’, wrote:
A car might have hit you.
Another intrigued user, ‘DonaldaMarinowwaRadosa’, asked:
How much was your fine?
Perhaps Nikol and her friend may have gotten away with their antics had they been in England, and more specifically, at Notting Hill Carnival.
A couple of years ago, back in 2016, Notting Hill Carnival officially turned 50, and the policemen on duty, couldn’t help but get involved with party atmosphere.
With music blaring and dancing aplenty in the streets of west London, officers were present to ensure the safety of carnival-goers – as well as to keep the peace – but it didn’t stop them from having some fun of their own…

Yet in a case of ‘when twerking goes wrong’, a Spanish mum smacked her two daughters when she walked in on them doing the provocative dance in their bedroom.
Sisters Julissa and Jesenia were recording a video of themselves twerking, which is when their mum caught them.
Check out the video below:
It just goes to show, when you’re busy twerking, be careful, you never know who’s watching!
