Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner has revealed the crazy reason why she was cast over a ‘far better actress.’
Turner, who plays Sansa on the HBO show, claims she was once offered a film role because her social media following was greater than the person she was competing against.
If that’s how casting agents hire then a lot of us can consider ourselves fucked. I still I’m in the 100s of Instagram follows. Grim.
Turner made the revelation to Net-A-Porter’s Porter magazine.
She said:
A lot of what I have achieved is about timing and luck, but it is also, and I hate to say it, about a big social media following.
I auditioned for a project and it was between me and another girl who is a far better actress than I am, far better, but I had the followers, so I got the job. It’s not right, but it is part of the movie industry now.
Fuck, does this mean Kylie Jenner’s gonna be poppin up in Palme d’Or winners?
Turner didn’t reveal who the actress was, but went on to say she’s learned the benefits of not sharing too much stuff about her life online.
She added:
It was gradual that I still treated my life and my social media like I wasn’t in the public eye.
I was a 15-year-old girl writing rash political stuff that would get a negative reaction and my team would tell me to take it down. Now I am learning to keep my mouth shut.
Good shout from Turner there. No one likes that.
