An 18-year-old was horrified at the ‘unprofessional’ and ‘bitchy’ way she was rejected after a job interview.
When Megan Dixon showed up to steakhouse chain Miller and Carter in Leicester to interview for a waitress position, she was not expecting the assistant manager would text her saying she was ‘basic’ followed by a crying emoji.
She was interviewed by Shantell Wesson, and moments after Dixon left the building, she received a text message saying, ‘It’s a no’.
In response, Megan asked ‘Okay. How come?’, to which she received the ‘rude’ reply of ‘Just not engaging. And answers were “like” basic ?’.
In her tweet with the message, Megan wrote: “Imagine going for a job interview and the woman says she will email u in a few days but then waits 1 minute after you leave to text you this ?”.
Megan blasted Wesson, saying:
I was shocked. The least she should have given me was some proper feedback.
It was a really bitchy thing to do.
And the laughing face emoji was so unprofessional. It was a really bitchy thing to do.
Maybe because I’m 18 she thinks it’s OK not to be professional with me? I don’t know.
Wesson refused to comment, but when the Sun contacted Miller and Carter, a spokeswoman said:
We can’t apologise enough to Megan.
It was never our intention to be disrespectful or upset her in any way.
The texts were sent in error and were intended for our manager, not the candidate.
Miller and Carter have said they’re taking the incident ‘extremely seriously’ and it would be investigated.
Perhaps they should be interviewing for another assistant manager as well after Wesson apparently didn’t shake her hand, didn’t have her CV and her phone was going off throughout.
