El Chapo has finally been captured by authorities after breaking out of jail.
Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman had been on the run for six months after escaping from a Mexican jail, with the Mexican President himself confirming that he had been apprehended.
There had been a $5 million reward offered by the government for any information leading to the capture of the drug lord, after he escaped through a 1.5km long tunnel dug in the prison showers.
Video footage of El Chapo being transported from Los Mochis to Mexico City found its way onto Twitter:

This was his second escape, after initially staying on the run for 13 years, following his first arrest in Guatemala back in 1993.
El Chapo’s net worth is estimated to be around $1 billion, with the Mexican government claiming his capture is a huge victory.
He was caught after a shootout with Mexican marines in Los Mochis.
The internet obviously reacted accordingly:

So the countdown is on to his next escape apparently, but for now, Mexican officials are basking in their victory, with the President claiming it was ‘mission accomplished’.
