Blake Lively’s Met Gala Outfit Had A Secret Message For Ryan Reynolds On It

The 2018 Met Gala was more sumptuous than ever this year, with the breathtaking theme of Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.

Celebrities rocked up to the hottest fashion event of the year looking like they had just swanned out from a renaissance painting.

Everywhere you looked there was a stunningly elaborate tribute to Catholic art and culture. Rihanna was the most stylish pope in town while Cardi B looked truly transcendental as the Immaculate Conception.

And who could forget Katy Perry’s enormous angel wings? I tell you, I wouldn’t want to be the one dodging those feathery things on the dance floor no matter how heavenly she looked…

One of my personal favourite dresses was the Versace gown worn by Blake Lively; combining chic elegance with the sort of elaborate detail you rarely see outside of the Game of Thrones costume department.

The richly embroidered bodice reportedly took over 600 hours to create, and would no doubt have left even Michelangelo himself a little impressed. Although I imagine he might have preferred Arianna Grande’s look.

And this exquisiteness is all before we even begin to look at the $2 million treasure trove of Lorraine Schwartz jewellery adorning the Gossip Girl star.

However, we were all so dazzled by Blake’s general gloriousness we completely missed something very special – and completely adorable – about her look.

The 30-year-old actor was also carrying a custom made clutch bag – no doubt containing velvet tampons and lipstick made from crushed rubies – which gave the sweetest tribute to her family.

This jewel encrusted Judith Leiber Seamless Sacred Heart clutch was custom made and deeply personal; decorated with a Reynolds family crest which was encircled with four letters: B, R, J and I.

The B and R refer to Blake and her actor/Twitter King husband Ryan Reynolds, while the J and I are a nod to their two young children; James and Ines.

Ryan was sadly missing from the sparkling event, but it seems this celeb couple can make us melt even when they are apart.

This was Blake’s ninth time at the Met Gala and she has stunned every single year with her grace, poise and eye for fashion.

However, speaking with Vogue back in March, she admitted her 2018 was her ‘favourite dress ever.’

The family orientated gal also spoke with Women’s Wear Daily about her one-of-a-kind accessories:

I just sent Lorraine Schwartz and Christian Louboutin my dress, and said, ‘Ok let’s do something special.’

They’re making something custom for it. So it’s kind of nice, because I have a bunch of artists around me who I have direct relationships with. It’s sort of a group effort with that.

I rely on people who do that for a living rather than outsourcing it to someone else.

As much as I adore this clutch, does anyone else kind of wish she had gotten one of Ryan’s salty tweets embroidered onto it instead?
