Cara Delevingne’s Armpit Wig Is Dividing Her Fans

Cara Delevingne showed off some lengthy armpit locks in a recent Instagram post, but she’s not been intentionally growing out her body hair. In fact, the hair isn’t even her own.

The model revealed she was using armpit wigs to fill out her underarms, and as wigs go, these ones are actually very impressive.

They’re definitely leagues above other wigs I’ve seen in popular culture, like Will’s replacement pubes in The Inbetweeners, or Kevin’s Ashton Kutcher-wannabe toupee in The Office (US).

Of course, one of the natural questions that comes to mind when coming across the concept of an armpit wig is this; why?

It turns out Cara adopted the underarm hair for an indie movie titled Her Smell, and although the 26-year-old is all about body positivity, she was unable to grow her own armpit hair after having the area lasered in the past.

Elizabeth Moss stars alongside Cara in the film, which tells the story of an all-female ’90s punk band.

The model shared a picture of her impressive hair pieces on Instagram, along with the caption:

I never thought I would need armpit hair again after getting laser… I was wrong. Introducing ARMPIT WIGS! Thoughts?

Many of Cara’s followers were more than happy to share their opinions on the concept of armpit wigs, and while some appreciated her showing them off, others were much less impressed, with some even responding with vomiting emojis.

Commenters called the wigs ‘gross and disgusting’, and ‘stupid’, while one person wrote ‘hands down the most unnecessary product ever’.

Some tried to claim women shouldn’t have armpit hair as it was ‘unattractive’ and ‘unhygienic’, and labelled the model as ‘disgusting’ for sharing the picture.

One Instagram user replied:

ITS [sic] absolutely disgusting TAKE care of your body

Another wrote:

However, many others stuck up for Cara and argued women should be able to grow their hair if they want to.

One of the model’s followers wrote:

Why are so many upset about her armpits? About 40/50 years ago Not shaving was normal and nobody shaved. Stopp [sic] being so sensitive about it

While another commented:

Oh my god. If there are “hygiene” reasons to shave armpit hair, then why, oh why do men don’t [sic] shave their own? Are men unhygienic?

What do you think of the armpit wigs?
