In the short clip Kate gave her account of what happened as she explained:

The next wave coming, it didn’t look that large from my point of view but it must have hit the rock just right and caught on.

The skirt, when it’s wet with all the tulle, is very heavy. It dragged me down. Everybody was very scared.

The clip was shared to Instagram by Sports Illustrated, and has received varying responses from the Internet Jury.

This is too funny but damn it looked like it hurt! Surely they knew this was inevitable after the first wave hit the rock.

Some blamed the Sports Illustrated crew for allowing Upton to remain on the rocks as the waves swelled, with one adding the incident ‘could have turned out deadly if she hit her head’.

@justenholstein, on the other hand, gave ‘Props to the guy that tried to help her’ adding ‘Kate just wasn’t paying attention’.

Many inquired ‘is she ded [sic]’, in glaring displays of either ignorance or stupidity, while others simply said the reaction to her fall was ‘so dramatic’.

The unfortunate tumble happened during her shoot back in October on the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba.

The 25-year-old, who is married to baseball pro Justin Verlander, is a veteran of the fashion industry and left the shoot unscathed.

Photos from the time showed Kate recovering quickly from the ugly incident as it unfolded. Kate didn’t appear to let it affect her as she was all smiles just minutes after the fall.

She has appeared on the cover of the iconic Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue three times, since making her debut in 2011 and being named Rookie of the Year.

Kate has recently contributed to the #MeToo movement, sharing her own story of sexual harassment and accusing clothing brand Guess co-founder Paul Marciano of ‘forcibly groping her’ eight years ago.

Upton told Good Morning, America co-host Robin Roberts she ‘wanted to prevent that from happening to other girls’.

She spoke to ABC about the alleged incident:

Guess issued a statement saying:

[Guess[Guess created a]al committee comprised of two independent directors to oversee an ongoing investigation into recent allegations of improper conduct by Paul Marciano. Mr. Marciano adamantly denies the allegations.

As a leader in the fashion industry, Guess Inc. takes seriously any allegation of sexual harassment. The company does not condone such misconduct in any form.

The statement concluded ‘the company is committed to completing an extensive and impartial investigation into all of the facts’ which is currently underway.
