Model Arrested Over Controversial ‘Bottom Whitening’ Advert

A model from Thailand has raised quite a few eyebrows with a revealing video advert for bottom whitening cream.

25-year-old Nitthakarn Nunthasuteepat, from Nonthaburi province flashed her own bare bum in the cheeky vid, to demonstrate the ‘beautiful pale colour’ transformation.

However, it seems her saucy selling technique has really come back to bite her on the bottom…

Police officers have now arrested single mother Nitthakarn, charging her with the offence of ‘mislabelling’ the cream under consumer protection laws.

Chief of Bangkok’s Consumer Protection Sub-division Region 4, Col Chanannat Santhawanpat, has described the cream’s container as being misleading, as well as lacking sufficient details.

He has suggested the video, which shows Nitthakarn’s nude behind, could be regarded as being pornographic.

Nitthakarn could now serve up to a year’s prison sentence or receive a 100,000 baht (£2,300) fine or she may even have to face both these punishments.

According to the Daily Mail, Deputy Secretary General of The Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Dr. Somchai Preechaavejkit, has stated:

The produce advertised is registered, as a cosmetic body care in the form of whitening substances, so it must be checked whether the message is displayed as requested with or without the whole label and substances used.

We believe that there is an advertising fault because claiming there is an instant switch in colour of the bottom from dark to white is not allowed.

The FDA will also be working with police officers to investigate whether her other products are incorrectly marketed, and will be checking for any prohibited or hazardous substances.

According to Thai Visa News, head of Chula University’s Biology Department, Dr Jetsuda Denduangboriphan has warned of the dangers of cheap whitening creams which could contain mercury.

Dr Denduangboriphan has advised using such products could lead to mercury accumulating harmfully within the body.

According to The Bangkok Post, technology crime suppression police will be looking into whether Nitthakarn should be charged with uploading a pornographic image onto a computer system.

Aside from bottom whitening cream – which she has been selling over social media for over a year – Nitthakarn has previously sold vaginal tightening soaps and face whitening masks.

Nitthakarn has denied accusations she was trying to be provocative, arguing how she refrained from showing more intimate parts of her body within the video.

However, lawyer Thanai Khoo Jai (Lawyer for You) Ronnarong Kaewpetch has warned others against getting their bottom out online, which he says could well land them a five year jail sentence in certain serious cases.

Nitthakarn has also denied claims of false advertising, saying the video footage was merely a reflection of the results she herself has enjoyed after using the cream.

According to the Daily Mail, Nitthakarn has explained her reasons for the video, asking people to empathise with her situation as a single parent:

I have a child to support and no husband. I am just trying to take care of myself and my daughter.

I hope people can understand and accept my apology.
