The course of true love never did run smooth. And if it’s not true love, you’re in for an even bumpier ride, and that kind of sounds like lyrics Justin Bieber or Selena Gomez would come up with.
So it goes with Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber, who split again back in March, not that we’re keeping count or anything…
This time round, Selena seems to be focussing on the positive. So yaay good vibes time!
Speaking to Us Weekly, a source close the singer said that she is ‘thrilled about her decision-making process’.
The source added that Selena ‘chose happiness and her friends and family’ over her former beau Bieber.
The source said:
Selena started seeing the bigger picture when it came to their relationship, like what was more important: her general happiness and her family and friends approval, or her being together with Justin, where no one really supported their relationship.
She obviously chose happiness and her friends and family, and is so thrilled about her decision-making process.
She feels more empowered than ever and is looking forward to this next chapter.
A source close to Selena’s family has suggested that the rift isn’t just between Selena and Justin, though. They said:
Selena and Justin decided to take a break mainly because of Selena’s mom and her disapproval of Justin.
Justin’s family loves Selena, but Selena’s family has put her in a very conflicting spot because they still don’t trust Justin. Selena has tried to convince her family that Justin has changed … but her family isn’t budging right now.
The decision has obviously hit Justin hard.
The 24-year-old singer and born-again Christian recently took to Instagram to express the truth about his ‘glamorous’ lifestyle, saying that it’s not always as good as they make it look on social media.
In the post, Bieber wrote:
Hey world, that glamorous lifestyle you see portrayed by famous people on Instagram, don’t be fooled thinking their life is better than yours I can promise you it’s not!
The two incidents might not necessarily connected, but it’s not unusual for a Selena Gomez break-up to inspire singers to do something about it.
You may remember, if you’re keeping track, that Selena got back with Justin after a 10-month fling with Abel Tesafaye, aka The Weeknd.
Though she said they ended their relationship amicably, the split is rumoured to have inspired the Weeknd’s latest release My Dear Melancholy, which was a return to his earlier, darker style with lyrics focussing on heartbreak and anger at a breakup.
It was also rumoured that Tesafaye didn’t attend the recent Met Gala in order to avoid any awkward encounters on the red carpet.
Selena, meanwhile, rocked up solo in a trailing white gown, but still couldn’t avoid running the gauntlet of social media.
Some fans of the singer were quick to criticise her look for the event, saying she’d over-done it with the bronzer. Rather than hitting back, though, Selena posted on her Instgram a classy video of her walking away from the gala, and captioned it ‘Me when I saw my pictures from the MET’.
