The ex-convict, known as ‘hot mugshot guy’ who rose to fame after his prison photo went viral, was deported from the UK hours after he arrived.
Jeremy Meeks, from Stockton, California, was detained in London’s Heathrow airport for five hours before being put on a plane straight back to the US after UK border officials banned him from entering the country.
The ‘hot felon’, was handed a modelling contract after Stockton Police Department posted his photo on their website following his arrest for gang activity and misdemeanor charge of obstructing justice.
Meeks traveled to London to shoot a series of magazine covers, and despite having the correct paperwork from his parole officer, border control would not let him in.
The ex-con-turned-fashion-icon was sentenced to 27 months in a US prison in 2014 and was released from jail in March 2016 and has since walked the catwalk during New York Fashion Week.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Meeks’ manager Jim Jordan said:
We went into the UK and we went through immigration and they detained Jeremy.
He wasn’t arrested but they deported him out of the country. They wouldn’t let him come into the country. He is really upset. He was police-escorted onto the plane.
We flew to London from Los Angeles this morning. We got there, and Jeremy and I walked up to the customs office together.
They stamped my passport. They looked at Jeremy’s passport and they said, could you guys go sit over there. So they put us in this sectioned off section and we were sitting there for an over an hour.
Then they came to me and asked if I could go through customs without Jeremy.
I started getting calls from Jeremy, saying hey, they’re putting me in this room and there’s another guy in here and the guy has been here for about eight hours.
Jeremy, who was heavily interrogated and banned from entering the UK, plans to visit the US Embassy in London to seek assistance.
Jordan expressed how it was ‘the very first thing that Jeremy has done’ and ‘it was his big debut’, setting him ‘on the right track for what we feel was going to be his new life’.
As if he walked out of prison straight to a catwalk at New York Fashion Week.
