The Manchester Evening News started the fundraiser initially, due to the overwhelming response from readers asking how they can help and contribute in some way.

Manchester Evening News readers have been asking how they can help, so we have started this fund to help support the families in the aftermath of the attack.

Their first target was £100,000, but by lunchtime, that total had tripled – due to a hugely generous donation from Umar Kamani- the man behind fashion giant Boohoo – leading them to increase their goal to £500,000.

The atrocious attack took place at 10:35pm, just minutes after the popstar had finished her gig – in which thousands of teenagers, young people and children were in attendance.

At present 22 people have been declared dead and 59 others injured, with the death toll expected to rise.

The first named victim was 18-year-old Ariana superfan Georgina Callander, who sadly died as a result of the blast.

Incredible donations and a huge show of support from across the country, proving that kindness will overcome evil and we will all stand strong and united against this sort of cowardice.

Thoughts are with all of those affected at this awful time and with the families of those who have tragically lost their lives.
