The aspiring model and her cousin, Jameel Muhktar, 37, were driving through Beckton, east London, on the morning of June 21, celebrating Resham’s birthday, listening to music and enjoying her return after nine months studying in Cyprus.

But as they pulled up to a red light, a man, believed to be 25-year-old John Tomlin, threw a corrosive substance through both the passenger and the driver’s windows, in a callous and brutal attack that has left the pair with life-changing injuries.

However, just two months later, Resham uploaded photos to Twitter showcasing her incredible recovery:

Speaking to UNILAD, Resham said:

I uploaded the photos as it was the first time I tried makeup on properly. It was around 2am, I was only seeing what I’d look like, but I started getting emotional because for the first time in a long time I recognised the old me.

The healing process is actually two years long. Come my 23rd birthday is the day I can say I’ve ‘recovered’. I have many more hospital appointments to see what more can be done. But for now I’m working with what I have.

I’m feeling no particular way, however I’m just trying my best to make sure I use the platform I’ve been given to do some good, whether that be work towards prevent attacks or help others.

Other than that, I’m at home, I get ill quite often (due to me and my medication) so spend a lot of time in my room. But I’m just enjoying the rest of the summer until I start my final year of uni.

With it being 2am when she took the incredible and brave photos, Resham said she photos showed the ‘good’ side of her face (the left).

The Business Management student also explained that she was struggling to find words for how she feels, but that putting on make-up again gave her an ’emotional’ look at her old self.
