Double Emmy Award-winning James Corden has annoyed a lot of people with his behind-the-scenes antics at the 2017 ceremony last night.
But it wasn’t sex, drugs, or rock n roll – the usual fodder for star-studded LA events – that had observers all riled up; instead, commentators are angry with Corden over his questionable choice of back stage buddy.
The British comedian was spied brushing shoulders with none other than Sean Spicer:
Even James Corden, a comedic darling in both his British homeland and across the pond in his American offices, can’t get away with kissing President Donald Trump’s former White House Press Secretary without a political backlash.
People have dubbed the display of affection ‘absolute trash’ and ‘disgusting’, with Instagram user @caitiehannan writing ‘Shame on you’ and @drenicky calling for celebrities to ‘stop normalizing these monsters’.
In case you missed it, Sean Spicer is pretty unpopular in American politics right now.
After wildly exaggerating the numbers in attendance at Donald Trump’s inauguration, falsely laying claim to the ‘largest audience to ever to witness an inauguration, period – both in person and around the globe’, he continued down a dark path of political deception.
Spicer led the charge against the press, beginning by blocking the BBC, CNN, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Politico from briefings, as part of Trump’s war on the so-called fake news media.
At a despicable low point, during Passover, Spicer made like a Holocaust denier and claimed Hitler didn’t use chemical weapons during World War II – an ‘alternative fact’ anyone with a History GCSE can discredit – when responding to the Khan Shaykhun chemical attack in Syria in April 2017.
Spicer has been expertly parodied across American media, with many comedians finding a way to poke fun at his fictitious fallacies, including SNL‘s Melissa McCarthy.
Yet, the rogue press officer was in attendance, wined and dined, at the Emmy’s to make a shocking cameo appearance during Stephen Colbert’s expertly-timed joke over Emmy attendance numbers.
Weighing in, Spicer had the cheek to parody his own immense political failings:

On July 21, 2017, Spicer announced his resignation as White House Press Secretary, although he remained at the White House in an unspecified capacity, until August 31, 2017.
Meanwhile, his old boss’ track record so far is looking about as shiny as Spicer’s reputation:

Yet another example of how the lines between politics, celebrity and total fiction have become totally blurred.
