This Christmas you better watch out, you better not cry and I’m going to tell you why…
A mass murderer is on the loose – he sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake and he knows if you’ve been bad or good so be good for goodness sake!
Better Watch Out is coming to town this Christmas and it’s decking the halls with blood.
Forget the 1974 slasher classic Black Christmas, those mischievous Gremlins and the modern black comedy hit Krampus , there’s a nastier film in town.
If you prefer your Christmas movies to be more harrowing than holy and more miserable than merry, Better Watch Out is the only one you’ll need – it’s the darkest festive film ever made.
It’s probably best watching the film not knowing anything about it so you don’t see the big twist coming but if you don’t mind spoilers, then continue reading.

Chris Peckover, a relative newcomer in the world of directing, saw festive favourite Home Alone and thought nah, what this film really needed was knives and some good old fashioned murders, thus, he made Better Watch Out.
At first, the premise sounds rather cliche and you may think you know exactly what you’re going to get from the film.
The plot is as follows: In a quiet suburban town, a babysitter must defend a 12-year-old boy from intruders who appear to have murderous intentions.
However, you soon discover this is far from your normal home invasion as seemingly sweet, 12-year-old Luke, is actually a full blown psychopath who set up the fake intrusion in order to try and scare babysitter Ashley into having underage sex with him.
As if this wasn’t messed up enough already, he then starts going on a murdering spree, killing people in ways which can only be described as ‘imaginative’, believing all the time he’s morally entitled to do so.
If this isn’t dark, then, well I don’t know what is?
Every time you think things possibly can’t get any worse, they do and even at the end when you think it’s all over, Peckover leaves us with a post-credits scene which will chill you to your bones.
It’ truly horrifying but thankfully, the film is also massively entertaining thanks to the twist which keeps you engaged – not to mention the black comedy.
Trust me, you’ll never be bored, not even for one second during Better Watch Out – you’re caught up in the weird, unrelenting and completely bizarre action.
The young and unknown Australian cast including Olivia DeJonge, Ed Oxenbould and particularly Levi Miller, all give brilliant performances and are faces to watch out for in the future.
DeJonge is as spirited as she is vulnerable, playing babysitter Ashley while Miller, who plays Luke, is fantastically creepy, unhinged and unsettling, giving the impression of unpredictability.
2017 has been a strong year for horror with It smashing the box office and Get Out making waves within Hollywood, with its original and genius take on the genre.
It makes sense the year is ending with Better Watch Out, which is sure to become a festive favourite, being both fresh and exciting.
I can guarantee your copy of Home Alone on DVD will forever live at the back or your cupboard once you’ve watched this.
Just be good for goodness sake.
