A video has gone viral on Twitter which appears to show popular musician Ed Sheeran in the crowd at his own concert.
19-year-old Sophie Lowther from Morecambe was enjoying Ed’s gig at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on May 24 and so she decided to film some of it on her phone.
While recording Ed’s performance of his hit song Sing, a guy in the crowd was causing quite the commotion which Sophie then realised was because he looked exactly like the singer.
As he walked past her, Sophie caught the lookalike on camera. You can watch the footage here:
Of course Sophie just had to share the video on Twitter as the resemblance was truly uncanny.
She wrote:
Aye, why the f*** has Ed Sheeran just walked past me at his concert!?!
Naturally the tweet went viral receiving 2.55 million views, 51,000 retweets and 151,000 likes at time of writing (June 1).
Speaking exclusively to UNILAD, Sophie explained what happened at the gig:
I didn’t have much time to be excited for the concert as I got offered a ticket the day before! My friend Sam messaged me telling me there was a spare ticket, so I took the opportunity and had such a good time!
I have enjoyed Ed Sheeran’s music for a long time, he always brings out such catchy songs.
I was literally videoing Ed Sheeran on stage whilst he was performing the song Sing when this guy walks past that looked the spitting image of him.
She continued:
People were shouting ‘Ed’ and I thought it was hilarious, so I caught him on my video.
At first I was really confused myself, but obviously I knew he was up on stage. I was sort of like ‘what’s going on’, but I knew it was just a lookalike.
My mum and dad were shocked at the video as well because of how much he actually looked like Ed Sheeran.
We were also pretty taken aback by the similarities. The guy must have been turning heads as much as the real Ed at the concert!
Clearly the lad in the video wasn’t Ed since he was on stage performing but some people were convinced it was.
Sophie told us:
I had so many messages about it saying how confused they were, asking if it was really him, saying ‘how did you get so close to him’, it was really funny.
I never expected the video to blow up how it did, I thought it was funny but I didn’t expect it to get this reaction.
I woke up the day after I had uploaded it and my phone was boiling. I had so many notifications and then it just hasn’t stopped since.
I have read a few of the retweets and the captions are things like ‘oh my god, what is going on’ and ‘explain this conspiracy theory’. I think some people genuinely believe it is him, as the guy in the video looks the spitting image of him, however, unfortunately, it was not.
We are still just gobsmacked at how much he looks like Ed! If he isn’t a professional lookalike already he should be. There’s some decent dollar in that!
