ugcA young dad is fighting for his life in intensive care after suffering horrific and unexplained injuries on his stag do in Magaluf.
Alex Green, 26, had only been on the party island for six hours when he failed to return from the toilets in a bar, and was found unconscious in the resort with severe injuries.
The firefighter from Rochdale suffered a bleed to the brain, fractures to his eye sockets, cheeks and nose, and a collapsed lung. He is in intensive care in Spain but remains in a stable condition.
Anthony Unzueta, one of Alex’s close friends who was on the stag do with him, has started a JustGiving page in an effort to raise £50,000 to pay for Alex’s care and to fly him back home to the UK.
FacebookSpeaking to UNILAD, Anthony said:
We were all out enjoying the beginning of his stag do literally only hours in when a couple of us had noticed him missing from the crowd and tried to ring him with no answer, we eventually got a returned call from his phone by the people that found him in the street and told us we had better come quick and that he was in a bad way.
A few of us rushed frantically to him where we found him unconscious and in a bad state with significant injuries. I took off my shirt to try and stem some bleeding from his head and the paramedics were soon on scene.
He’s in a stable state as of now making steady progress but still has a long way to go, that’s all I can say at this stage. We all just pray that he pulls through this in the best way possible.
FacebookAlex’s fiance Rebecca Thorpe flew out to be with him, and said in a statement that she couldn’t stop crying and that she wanted nothing more than to get him home.
In the statement, Rebecca said:
We just can’t stop crying, but he’s amazing. We’ve got a two-year-old, we just want to get him home.
It’s just so out of the ordinary. He such a good person, so hard working. He’s such a devoted dad.
FacebookThere will be a fundraising event for Alex on Saturday September 23 at The Millstone in Golborne, Wigan where there will be incredible raffle prizes on offer to raise money for him.
Alex’s friends are also holding a charity stationary row in the Trafford Centre this Sunday 11am to 6pm where they are hoping to row the distance from Manchester to Spain on the rowing machines to raise funds.
FacebookSpeaking to UNILAD, one of Alex’s colleagues at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue, Wesley Eastham, described Alex as ‘one of the funniest and most positive lads I’ve ever met’, saying ‘there’ll be plenty of good times to come with him getting married soon’.
Our thoughts are with Alex, his family and friends at this difficult home. We hope he recovers and returns home soon.
