Dog Reunited With Brother He Hadn’t Seen Since Birth After Spotting Him At Park

I often wonder if dogs recognise each other and have chats while they’re out being walked – we just have no idea – and this story has fuelled my theory.

Walela Nehanda’s dog, Louie, was on a classic lap around the park when he stopped in his tracks and experienced his very own Parent Trap moment.

Without the owners knowing, the two brother labradoodles greeted each other, and the owners quickly realised what had happened. But how did the pups know?? So many questions.

UNILAD

Speaking to UNILAD, Walela said:

My mom was at the park with my dad – they go running together every day – and Louie normally doesn’t care too much about the other animals there, he usually just minds his own business.

But my mom called me after it happened and he apparently stopped dead in his tracks and was staring at a dog a distance away. And the other dog did the same.

So they start moving towards each other and by the time they are in front of each other, it’s pretty clear these dogs look identical.

So then, my family asks where these people got this twin dog from and they respond with ‘Beau Monde’ and my family is like ‘same’, so then my parents ask who the dog’s parents are, to which they responded: ‘Bug and hank’ who are Louie’s parents too. So then it was confirmed, that was Louie’s sibling.

Walela posted the cute image to Twitter with the caption:

My fam got Louie (right) from a breeder years ago. Tell me why, Louie is at the park & stops dead in his tracks when seeing this dog (left).

Turns out they are from the same breeder, have the same parents, meaning THEY ARE BROTHERS & RECOGNIZED EACH OTHER this sh*t made me cry. [sic]

The post received an incredible 513k likes and 120k retweets, warming the hearts of many commenters who posted photos of their own labradoodles.

Yet there were a number of commenters who took issue with the fact Walela’s parents used a breeder to get Louie instead of adopting, with some people being very threatening towards her.

Speaking about this, Walela said:

I appreciate how good hearted it is to be frank, in a world where everything is crap, it is nice to see people get hyped over dogs.

The only thing that’s been unsettling is seeing many white people tell me as a black person to go die or that I’m a low life or an idiot because my parents made a decision to go to a breeder.

I believe in adoption, all my own animals are adopted, however, when my community is constantly fighting colonialism, racism, exploitation, and genocide – where someone got a dog from is just not as high of a priority.

And it’s unfortunate seeing many of the same people upset over this tweet and my dog refuse to stand up for the humanity of my community of Black and Indigenous peoples. There’s a stark contradiction that needs resolving.

UNILAD

UNILAD documentary recently looked into the dark side of puppy farming, and a petition to establish ‘Lucy’s Law’ was set up.

Lucy’s Law would call an immediate ban on the sale of puppies by pet shops and other third-party commercial dealers, aiming to make puppies available only from rescue centres or reputable breeders, where the puppies are always seen with their real mothers.

On May 21, Parliament decided to back Lucy’s Law, with George Eustice, minister at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, saying:

The Government considers there is merit in exploring this further.
